Definitions:
No Drop Ride: The ride leader assigns a "sweeper"
to stay with the slowest rider. No one is left
behind. The group stays together or regroups
frequently. New and inexperienced riders are
welcome.
Drop Ride: New riders still welcome, but come
prepared with a map or GPS if you're not familiar
with the route. Generally a faster paced ride; no
one is guaranteed to stay with you. There may not
be a designated ride leader or sweeper. The group
might not even notice when you get dropped...
Getting Dropped: You're riding with a group and the
pace picks up. The gap between you and the riders
in front of you widens and you can't keep up. You
give one last effort and then watch the group pull
away down the road as they get smaller and
smaller...
You finally give up, slow your pace, catch your
breath, and say "Next time..."
Don't worry, getting dropped is motivation to get
faster... and you WILL GET FASTER if you keep riding
and training. Come back and try again! |
